NaNoWriMo @ EJA: Part 1
Hello, EJA family! Last week, our middle school students began an exciting new adventure: the NaNoWriMo challenge! National Novel Writing Month lasts from November 1st to November 30th, and the goal is to write an original novel in one month. Each of our students has set a goal starting at 5,000 words and going as high as 20,000 words. Students earn prizes for reaching various check-in goals and participate in optional Write-Ins twice a week. Write-Ins are an afterschool event that provides a place for students to work on their novels, workshop with friends, and get whatever help they need to succeed. The school provides hot chocolate, tea, and snacks as an extra incentive. Students who complete their overall word goals receive a limited edition 2019 NaNoWriMo Winner's T-shirt.
After NaNoWriMo is over, students revise and edit their novels, then receive a professionally printed paperback copy at the end of the year.
This has been a wonderful and uplifting program at our school that broadens our student's writing skills, encourages creativity, and grows self-confidence. If you would like to support writing program, which the students have named The Perfect Blend Writing Society, you can send donations marked for The Perfect Blend Writing Society to the school via mail (6350 S Sunbury Road, Westerville, OH 43081) or follow this link below to donate online: fundly.com/support-eja-s-young-writers 33 novels totaling 294,714 words in just 30 days. Can we make it? Let's find out!
